We hope by now you’ve seen our new look bottles and love them as much as we do!
As a business we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and have worked hard to make our packaging as environmentally friendly as possible.
As a brand we have always used glass bottles rather than the popular plastic options of so many other brands and supermarket own labels because we strongly believe that it is a more sustainable packaging solution.
Glass bottles are more readily recyclable within local authorities than plastics – only 45% of plastic is recycled in the UK compared to 50% of glass with less than 100 local authorities collecting plastics in their household recycling collections.
Another popular packaging format within dairy products, especially flavoured milks, is a Tetrapak. Many people see these as just cardboard however there is usually a plastic cap on the carton and the pack will be lined with an aluminium foil or plastic liner so they also aren’t as environmentally friendly as you might first think. Whilst this packaging is recyclable, within the UK there just aren’t enough recycling centres to process them meaning that less than 25% are actually recycled – the rest will end up in landfill.
During 2020, we took the decision to move to a new bottle shape which is produced using 30% recycled glass meaning that for every bottle we use, it has less impact on our planet.
When we were creating the new look bottles recently, we also wanted to make sure we were doing everything we could as a business to live by our ‘respectful’ company value and build on our sustainable packaging credentials.
So, as part of our recent brand refresh, we took the decision to move from the plastic label to a paper label meaning that from our glass bottles and metal caps right through to the paper labels, we’re proud to share that our bottles are fully recyclable.
And that’s not all, we’ve been working hard on the bits that most of you don’t see too! The cases that our bottles are delivered to shops in are made of cardboard and sealed with paper tape and all of the pallets that our bottles are transported on are packaged using biodegradable shrink wrap.
We will continue to strive to reduce our carbon footprint and improve our green credentials further in the future and we will keep you posted on any developments. Until then, we hope you enjoy your Tom Parker Creamery products knowing that you are doing your bit as a consumer to help reduce plastic usage – cheers!
